Arts, Crafts, Classes and Repairs

Beginning Crochet

No prior experience with crochet is required to join in this two-hour basic class. We’ll start with the absolute basics and you’ll be allowed to work at your own pace, with the option to learn many stitches to create different fabrics suitable for all kinds of projects.

Required Supplies: – Each student will need around 50 grams of worsted weight yarn. We recommend cotton so you can keep your first practice swatch, even if it’s a little wonky, and use it as a wash cloth! Yarn weight information can be found on most labels – look for the word “Worsted” or a little symbol that looks like a yarn ball with the number 4 on it, or the word “medium”. – You will also need a US Size H/5mm or I/5.5mm crochet hook. We recommend Susan Bates brand hooks. We can set you up with yarn and a hook for around $6 total at our shop on the day for the class if you prefer. – You can bring the yarn and/or hook from home if you happen to have them, or borrow them from our shop for free (but you must leave them after the class), but we recommend that you purchase them from our shop before the class, plus you get a 10% discount on anything you wish to purchase. *If you need to purchase supplies please arrive 15-20 minutes before class starts.*

Homework: Please prepare for class by learning to tie a slip knot. You can practice on any piece of string, and here is a great tutorial.
